Unwired Wireless Internet is as secure as any cable or wire-based internet service. An Unwired customer's computer is no more accessible to other Unwired internet users than it is to any internet users. Your neighbour cannot intercept your wireless connection and intercept your account as there are several layers of security between the base station and an individual modem, including beam forming RF technology, encryption and authentication.
The Unwired network uses built-in security mechanisms to minimise the possibility of security breaches from within the network. These mechanisms include the use of proprietary air interfaces between Unwired's base stations and customer modems, beam-pointing technology to direct signals to the location where customer modems are placed, traffic broadcast filters and authentication technology.
The wireless internet technology used by Unwired is also considered more secure than 802.11 technology (also commonly referred to as WiFi or hotspots). This is especially the case when it comes to protection from wireless 'script kiddies', a common problem for 802.11 networks.
802.11 refers to a wireless standard, used by wireless Ethernet LANs which operate in the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz region of the public radio spectrum.
Unwired is more secure than 802.11 technology for a number of reasons:
